Patricia Gilmartin is a doctor of Chinese Medicine, which includes Acupuncture and Medicinal Chinese Herbalism. She is licensed in the state of Rhode Island as a Dr. of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, as well as Nationally Certified as a Chinese Herbalist. Dr. Gilmartin received a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree from Boston University. Her postgraduate study, internship and clinical rounds to become a Doctor of Chinese Medicine were done at The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego CA.
After studying both Western and Eastern Traditional and Natural Medicines, she opened her practice in East Greenwich, RI in 1996. At the same time, her love and confidence in herbal medicine inspired her to open the first Chinese raw herbal pharmacy in Rhode Island, which then enabled her to create custom formulas for her patients.
Dr. Gilmartin prides herself on staying current with the latest research and development in the treatment of fertility and reproductive health, as well as general practice concerns. In her three decades of practice she has witnessed first hand how effective Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is in treating many acute and chronic illnesses, fertility issues and gynecological problems.
Today we can combine the technology of Western Medicine and Reproductive Endocrinology (RE) with the harmony and nurturing of Traditional Chinese Medicine, namely acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, to treat many illnesses and fertility issues in a calming, nurturing and less invasive way.
Treatment with Chinese medicine addresses the root causes of an imbalance in your body, which is preventative and can have a profound effect and important implications on your current and future health and well being.
This is why Dr. Gilmartin practices Traditional Chinese Medicine and is sincerely proud and honored to help her patients address their healing issues with a holistic approach.
Hormonal Imbalances and nutritional deficiencies are often the main causes of unexplained infertility. This includes, but is not limited to:
Dr. Gilmartin strongly encourages all of her fertility patients to do fertility charting and will guide you and educate you throughout the process about how to chart and what the data collected means. This information provides Dr. Gilmartin with great insight into what your fertility issues might be. Furthermore, once you have a better understanding of the data and the imbalances that are revealed through this simple method, it will make it easier for you to stay engaged and focused on fixing the issues.
Each person has a unique health makeup and unique imbalances that need to be addressed, there is no one herb or supplement that is right for everyone. Dr. Gilmartin’s 25+ years as a Chinese Medicinal Herbalist, combined with the data provided by your fertility charting, enables her to choose and create customized herbal formulas that will address your unique health needs.
At the core of Chinese Medicine is the concept that food and health are inseparable. The awesome power of real healthy food is often understated. Real food is powerful medicine. There are particular eating habits and fertility foods that should be incorporated into your daily nutrition and Dr. Gilmartin will guide you through the nutritional modifications that will help boost your fertility.
Most women, trying to conceive, have many questions about their individual circumstances. If you are researching ways to naturally enhance your fertility and are overwhelmed by the variety of herbal and dietary suggestions you read about on the internet, Dr. Gilmartin will help you focus on options that may actually be relevant and appropriate for your individual healing, thus avoiding all of the irrelevant fads that do not pertain to your particular needs, giving you the peace and confidence to focus on what really matters: the health and tranquility of you and your family.
It is important to Dr. Gilmartin that communication is open, thorough and clear and that the role of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in your treatment and healing process is understood. Feel free to ask any questions, or note concerns, regarding treatment at any time.
In preparation for your treatment, please wear loose comfortable clothing. If draping is necessary, Patricia (Dr. Gilmartin) can accommodate whatever is needed. It is best not to come in on an empty stomach and not just after eating a large meal. Additionally, avoid colored cough drops or candy just before arrival as tongue diagnosis is part of the assessment.
Billing
We accept all forms of payment: cash, checks, credit or debit cards and HSA cards. Payment is rendered at time of service.
Insurance
Because most insurances do not cover Chinese Medicine services, Dr. Gilmartin does not have an insurance billing system set up in her practice. Having said that, more and more insurance companies are starting to cover acupuncture; therefore, she is more than happy to provide you with “insurance claim acceptable” invoicing. You can then follow up and initiate claim reimbursement with your insurance company yourself.
Dr. Gilmartin maintains a 24hr. cancellation policy. Emergencies and weather aside, full appointment fee is assessed if she is not notified within the allotted time frame.
Initial consults (1½ hours) include a thorough intake, evaluation and treatment. The Dr. will review relevant medical history. In order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of your health, Dr. Gilmartin likes to take time to thoroughly discuss your health concerns and goals. She will then utilize a traditional pulse, tongue and abdominal examination to further her understanding of your condition.
According to the nature of the concern, different methods of acupuncture and adjunct therapeutic modalities may be employed, such as, cupping, Gua Sha, E-stim, Moxabustion (a type of heat treatment) and infrared heat.
